Friston Forest - XC, Downhil and Freeride Routes in Friston, Sussex
Following the Fristams ride, stay tuned for Friston Summer Ride
Friston forest has a great short cross country route but also an 'old school' downhill race track
It's a similar business to Bedgebury in that there's a car park with a bike shop at the beginning (Cuckmere Cycles) but the trails are completely natural apart from the downhill run.
The cross country route starts with some exciting but short single track then a steep climb but if you can find your way to the downhill track, the descent is a real buzz with a jumps and drops on the way down. It's possible to miss those if you need to. At the bottom of the downhill track are a few small doubles that are pretty sketchy but can be a lot of fun. Next there's some more pedaling to do with some pretty steep climbs to the other side of the basin but it's really worth it as there's some super fast descents to follow until you reach a fireroad that can take you back to the car park. Alternatively you can climb the fireroad a bit further where the first piece of singletrack ended or a super steep descent the finishes further along the fireroad at the bottom of the basin. Perfect for Sunday morning 'all mountain' ride or just some XC.
