Leith Hill - Singletrack, XC and Freeride trails North Downs, Surrey

The North Downs is vast expanse of rideable ground with something for all styles of riding.

Leith hill really is a proper (steep) hill so expect to do some pedaling. To begin, the best advice is to navigate to the Plough Inn at Coldharbour in Surrey where there are a fine array of forest car parks further along the road. Just across from the Plough Inn is a an unmade road that will lead you in to the much loved 'Summer Lighting' trail which is long run of mostly downhill single track. When me and my pals did it, we weren't aware that it wasn't a loop and spend a fair bit of time aresing around at the finnish of the trail wondering where the rest of it was. Not being loop aside, it's well worth a go as long as you don't mind pedaling back along the unmade road back to the top. That particular trail doesn't actually take you to the top of Leith Hill. Once we'd got back to the Plough we decided to make the even steeper climb to the top of Leith Hill ('kin steep). On the other side of the hill are a lot of fun natural freeridy things that are well worth a look. It's possible to find by hunting around yourself but it's probably easier to befriend some other riders at the top like we did on our first visit. That way you get to see all the juicy stuff without missing anything as being the countryside, it's all covered in trees and ferns.

There are no restrictions to parking or riding at Leith Hill unless on private land .

How to get to Leith Hill, North Downs

Once you're off the M25 it isn't too far. Probably why all the commuters live there.

Deliverance at Leith Hill

The clip above doesn't really do justice to how mental this actually is. The slope when you're actually looking at is steep, long and infested with burly roots at the top. Any mishap will be likely to mean hospital.
